Painting I grew up surrounded by paintings created by my mother, but when my brother and I were very young she stowed the paints and brushes and she didn't paint for a very long time. Then, a few years ago, she and I marched into the art store together, purchased easels, canvases and oil paints and got busy. Having a partner in crime, when you're getting started on a big scary new project, can be invaluable. I'm particularly grateful for her encouragement because secretly, in my heart, I've wanted to paint for as long as I can remember (I'm sure, inspired by what was on the walls around me) and yet never before felt comfortable diving into the beautiful chaos of color, texture, stroke and content.
